Beggars Ball
are skinny, mean, longhaired virgin killers from Hollywood
who snatch the best bits from Buckcherry, GN’R, Black Crowes, and
inexplicably, Pantera, and mash ‘em all up into one big ball of blood,
piss, and fire that matches even Crank County Daredevils for sheer
ferocity. Tracks like the malicious “Starbanger” and the stab-happy
“Deadman’s Lullabye” are punishing slices of aggro-sleaze that sound like industro-metal legends Skrew resurrected as Sunset Strip glitterpunks.
It’s not all slash and burn, though. “American Vocal” is southern fried
powerboogie, “Live Out Loud” you could almost dance to, and “Demon Seed”
is pure 80’s style flash metal. The title track is a punky little
speedball, and “Life in a Lie”, whether by design or serendipity, is a
pop-metal take on GN’R’s “Locomotive”. Add it all up, throw in the
requisite youthful arrogance and will to provoke, and we just might have
the newest sleaze metal saviors on our hands. Just try and
keep ‘em away from pianos and dolphins. __________________________________________________ |
