NUDE PUBE BANGERS |
Ok, so their name
makes want to hate ‘em right outta the gate, but keep those itchy “eject”
fingers on ice, because these Pubes ain’t no teenage snot-punk circle
jerk, they’re a fully operational Norwegian Super Rock wrecking machine,
complete with chunky arena-glam hooks and dive-bombing Scandi-sleaze
guitars. Just try calling them “NPG”, it’s easier to take. There’s a big
retro 70’s influence on this brief-but-effective 5 song EP, especially in
the denim boogie blitz of the title track, and the Angus-on-fire blood n’
thunder of “Let Go”, but you’ll also heard shades of Seattle fuzz and
now-wave motorsleaze, too. You know, all the good shit. I dunno what all
the songs are about, since the band is really fond of yelling out whatever
the singer just said, resulting in a mish-mash of rock n’ roll
sloganeering that sounds like a fist-fight breaking out in the middle of a
crowded house party, but the helpful liner notes mention that the band is
concentrating on “Rawness and Sexism” these days, so there ya go. What I
do know is that the band smokes, the singer (when you can hear him) has a
great, booming, ego-strutting voice, and the songs are hook-heavy and
memorable. So, if you dig the usual suspects (Hellacopters, Backyard
Babies, etc.), then I suggest you get your nude pubes a bangin’. As if
you’re not already desperately trying to. |
