Danish
industrial god Claus Larsen is back. Lock up your hard drives. Not only
has he successfully reformed legendary vamp-goth-metal dancedustrialists
Leather Strip, but he is also recording under his one-man-band
side-project Klute again. Or Klutae, as he now prefers it, since his name
was snatched up during Klute’s downtime by some thieving techno goons.
90’s death disco fans will remember the original Klute as a metal
thrashing mad assault of speedcore guitars and a manically stuttering drum
machine, but this new edition is a slinkier affair, more in the vein of
pre-freakout Skinny Puppy, with danceable beats, raspy Halloween vox,
creepy samples, and…well, no Slayer riffs. There are a few tracks with
clanging metal guitars (“Monkey Say, Monkey Do”, at least), but the rage
and chaos have mostly been replaced by black humor (“I’m a Faggot in a
Leather Jacket”) and washes of goth-y keyboards. Which is not bad,
necessarily, just different. A surprising but solid new direction for
Larsen. Also includes a swell cover of “Blue Monday” that very nearly
rights the wrongs committed by Orgy. _______________________________________________________ |
