It’s
hard to be objective when a member of the Sleazegrinder family releases a
new CD, doubly so when it’s the sexadelic royal majesty of She-Rawk,
Detroit’s own Karen Neal, aka Queen Bee. So don’t expect objectivity, but
do expect a whole mess o’ slutty glam-punk with ripsaw guitars (courtesy
John Hajee) and big, meaty choruses to scream along to, preferably while
naked. The cleverly named Girl on Top opens strong with the
storming, autobiographical “Anatomical Gift”, known to many as “The
Motherfucker Song”, and for good reason. It’s loud, heavy cock n’ roll,
the perfect introduction to the wild world of the mighty Queen. The rest
of the album is less bombastic but just as action packed, sliding
seamlessly from glampop to alterna-boogie to speed punk, always with a big
hook nestled somewhere in every song. Clicks to pick include the
arena-riffing “Unraveled”, the suspiciously sugar-sweetened “Dreamy”, and
the crunching “Happy Medium Rare”. Bonus points for the naked pic of the
Queen on the back. Even more bonus points for having a song called
