Hey, did anybody else see “12 Ounce Mouse” on Adult Swim a month-or-so ago
at, like, 1 AM? I’m starting to think I hallucinated the whole thing. From
what I remember, it was just scribbled line drawings on notebook paper. I
think the title mouse and a shark robbed a liquor store and then killed a
bunch of people. It was jacked, Jack. Anyway, our Kentucky truckin’
friends in Nine Pound Hammer wrote the theme song, which is a pretty sweet
deal for ‘em, especially if it becomes a big hit. If it really was just
scribbles and stick figures, than it probably won’t be a hit, but who
knows? Maybe this here slab of vintage whomp-ass’ll be the big
break-through, anyway. It’s stuff the fellas recorded back in 1989-1990,
around there somewhere, including covers by the Dead Boys ( a rousing
“Ain’t Nothin’ To Do”), the Stones (“Dead Flowers”), and
Johnny Cash
(“Folsom Prison Blues”), and a whole greasy griddle’s worth of original
riff-punk scorchers about…well, I guess “Headbanging Stockboy” pretty much
sums it up. There’s two brand new songs, too, and a new (bad ass!) Dwight
Yoakum cover, “This Drinking Will Kill Me”. If you haven’t heard Nine LB
before, they sound pretty much exactly what you’d expect two Nashville
Pussy dudes, and two dudes that woulda been in Nashville Pussy, if only
they were born with big tits, to sound like – fast, mean, and boozy. And
possibly cartoon-y. Drink up.
