Stacey: Howcum they stole a
Kinks guitar riff for that song?
Me: Because it’s easy.
Not much thought required for this one, which
is perfect for me. Dig: the awesomely named Johnny Casino’s Easy Action
is a
pan-continental supergroup featuring members of Aussie skronkers Asteroid
B-612 plus various Philly rockers and wrasslers, including the Cosmic
Commander, who is both. Only four of the tracks here are not originals
(and even then…I mean, who did “Expressway to Your Heart”?)* , but they
all SOUND like familiar retro-rockin’ nuggets, which is entirely the point
of this combo. They play beer-swilling, belly-scratching, goodtime sock n’
roll, and they do it extremely well. I dunno if it’s because they’re
half-Australian, but a lot of the songs here sound like Rose Tattoo,
particularly ragged sex-rockers like “She’s a Deceiver” and “Treatin’ Me
Bad”. Elsewhere, well, just imagine the Blues Brothers at California Jam
II. Only in Philadelphia, and minus Mahogany Rush. But with two Black Oak
Arkansas sets. And more cowbell. Rock on.
*Soul Survivors. I have Google too, man, but you get the point.
