Ace of Spades
Raucous

UA’s first recording, dating from back in 1996 features their essential cover of Motorhead’s ‘Ace Of Spades’, which was even a Radio One Record Of The Week back in the dark days of Britpop. This lil six shootin’ tin of beans also includes dry, dusty spaghetti western desperado cactus chewin’ thirst quenchin’ trails through Creedence’s ‘Bad Moon Rising’, Mr. Cash’s own ‘Big River’, and ‘It’s All Over Now’, one and all dapperly drawled in The Man With This Name Andrew Cardno’s eerie Johnny Cash baritone. Almost surpassing ‘...Spades’ though is their stark Wild West bar tab stab at ‘I Shot The Sheriff’, an over the counter confession as the preacher pours bourbon and pretends to listen while the posse carve the killers name into bullets outside and load up pistols for penance.

Also available on Raucous is the ‘Teenage Kicks’ single. Yep, their hepped up and hopping cover of John Peels’ favourite complete with a ‘Ring Of Fire’ horn section and backed with ‘Sympathy For The Devil’ with the bonus track of ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ anglicised to ‘Feltham...’
