The Shine are a quartet of rock star Aussies with REALLY COOL hair and REALLY COOL clothes, man. One dude’s got a big puffy ‘fro, looks like the Heatmiser blowing his stack in an S&M dungeon, and another one of ‘em is all dressed up in leather and velvet, like some British glam god from 1975. If we were tossing out accolades based purely on style around here (and we come SO close sometimes, you don’t even KNOW), The Shine would be our number one superdudes without even a spin of their disc. And if the threads weren’t enuff, they’re called the fuckin’ SHINE. Like the sun, dig? It’s all the perfect set-up, really. All the fuckers need to do is ROCK, and we can all pledge allegiance, like we oughta. I mean, it’s not like we DON’T want them to be Rock Star Gods, you know?

Imagine that. They even remembered to rock. And it’s exactly the kind of rock you THINK it is, too – with hammering hard rock riffs, scream-along choruses, and big pop hooks that’ll remind you of the Bay City Rollers as much as they will of Slade. On the massive “Pure Dynamite”, you get the Bolan boogie-meets AC/DC chug of “Get it On”, the glitter rock glory stomp of “Heads are Gonna Roll”, the psyche-sleaze dope metal of “Stay”, the Brit-pop meets NYC swagger punk of “Let It Bleed”, and the bloozy, Lizzy-esque classic RAWK of “Look What You’ve Done to Me”. And that’s ALL you get, seeing as this is only a 5 song EP, but believe me, it’s plenty. Hell, it’s enough to start a very groovy cult, if not a whole global movement. The Shine is big time rock and roll the way you remember it, and “Pure Dynamite” is an apt title for this EP, cuz there’s a good chance that these Aussie sleaze-stars are gonna blow your fuckin’ mind.
