Amps II Eleven |
 Cleveland based label Smog Veil has
thus far been releasing recs by psyche-garage weirdos and regional punk
re-issues, so I was surprised to see their name on this pre-release by
stoner-y, local-yokel trucker metal band Amps II Eleven, a hairy
group of beer chuggers who’s complete lack of subtlety is more then made
up for by their willingness to scream out every chorus in unison like
freshly-shaved Marines. Funny thing is, I don’t think Amps even
meant to join the green-scene,
really, it just sorta happens that their Nuge-fueled arena-rawk
fits in neatly with the stoner-metal aesthetic. I think they just wanna
kick out the jams, brothers and sisters. Do they? Sure man, in the Jersey
style of heavy-ass dope n’ roll, with screamin’ leads and ZZ Top
boogie-bits and mebbe a dose of punk rock attitude. It just kinda blew
right by me, like a ghostly trucker on I-95. Hardcore stoner freaks take
notice, but I’d wait around to hear the next dose before hitching a ride.
