Nebelhexe
(“Fog Witch” in Viking-speak) is the latest project from Andrea ‘Nebel’
Haugen, a nose-ringed, gypsy-dressed Norwegian super-Pagan. A former
member of cloak and dagger dark-ambient outfit Aghast, author of “The
Ancient Fires of Midgard”, a book about Northern Mythology, and
‘expert’ on stuff no one except a slightly loony Norwegian artschool chick
possibly COULD be an expert in, the multi-tasking Nebel’s
latest frost-bitten treat is a Euro-folk inspired darkwave album full of
skittering synths, thudding electro-drums that sound like open-palmed
slaps to the tits, and a an operatic goth-girl wail. About what? Who
knows. Ravens, mostly, I think. Given her past work in diabolical music, I
figured this would break loose from the Front 242-meets-wood nymph
conventions of Scandi-fantasy goth stuff at some point, but it doesn’t. No
sudden attacks of galvanizing noise, no bloody Diamanda Galas
styled freakouts. Just hippy-goth dance music for Pagans and black metal
dudes. I dunno if Mortiis is looking for a life-partner to burn
elves with or whatever he does, but if it’s a spooky chick with twigs in
her hair and lotsa folk-disco songs about the forest he’s after, I found
her. ____________________________________________________ |
