Shakin’ In My Boots: A Texas Rock n’ Roll Compilation
Licorice Tree

__________________________________________

Well, finally, man. I don’t ask for a whole lot outta rock n’ roll, and most days, I sure the fuck don’t GET a lot from it, but the folks at the righteously named new label Licorice Tree have gone and got it exactly right. “Shakin” collects tracks from the cream (or the maybe it’s the underbelly, depends who you ask) of the Texan garage rock scene and lines ‘em all up in a neat row for ya. Bitchin’. Unless yer a total square, this is a must-have house-party rocker, with hit after hit from bands as diverse as motorpunk savages The Hotrails, to the Ventures-like hotrod instrumental-ists The Dragstrip Brothers, to the primitive freak-fuzz of 00 Spies, with everything from the minimalist chicken shack organ grinding of the Crack Pipes and the speedy 70’s punk of Jesus Christ Superfly in between. Now, there might be a bad song in here – ‘critics’ say no comp ever sleazes and pleases from end to end – but my guess is, you’ll be way too busy dancing around the living room with a pair of bloomers on yr head to notice. At least, that’s the way it worked for me. ____________________________________________________
