A
4 song demo’s worth of loopy, off-kilter NWOBHM-influenced superchug from
the bowels of ol’ Blighty that lacks cohesion but makes up for it with
sheer spazzy enthusiasm and a singer (the awesomely named Bartholomew
Stronghold III) who sounds just like long-gone and ever-lamented
one-lunged NY Riot rocker Rhett Forrester. All four songs vie for
Maiden-style epicness mixed with the blazing denim-boogie of Status Quo,
but “Journey Into Oblivion” comes the closest, even throwing in some
piping Hammond
organ into the mix. That’s a lot of ground to cover, and Power! very
nearly nail it with that one. They’re a young band though, and at various
points, they threaten to veer off the tracks at any moment and explode
into a flaming ball of sub-garage metal gunk. You can practically see the
fellas staring intently at their fretboards, madly counting off like it
was final exams and math was their worst subject. So, a tad undercooked
here, but give ‘em a little time, and these would-be cowboys might
actually start living up to their exclamatory name. __________________________________________________ |
