Austin bowlscrapers
Amplified Heat lay down a seriously twisted set of blues-punk tunes here.
The thing about these fuckers is, they are not content to simply beat
their instruments into the ground in a drunken rage –although they
certainly do that- but they gotta throw in all kindsa kitchen sink
elements while they’re doing it. So ya get pounding industrial drums in
the middle of a bloozy garage rocker, acid-friend stoner-metal riffs
breaking up a who-do voodoo thunderbilly party, and sleazy N’awlins
stripper-grind for no good reason at all (not that ya need one). “Fever”
is the most dug-in track, an entrenched psyche rawk freak-for-all that
just hammers away at old Amboy Dukes riffs until they splinter like broken
arrows, and “All the Aces” is a straight-up shitkickin’ sawdust rocker,
but otherwise, better just grab a hold of something and prepare to get yr
ass thrashed around in whatever direction Amplified Heat care to
take you. I know, man, ‘adventurous’ is a pussy word, but what am I gonna do?
Amp Heat are adventurous. But at least they’re adventurous
Texans, which
means somebody’ll probably get hurt before they’re through. Dive in, see
what happens.
