Last time I checked in with UK dope stars Josiah,
they were laying down some kind of bottom-heavy Brit-fuzz, Cream-meets-Sab-and-everybody-gets-real,
real gone slabbage. These days they’ve got more of stoner-psyche-blooze-arena
rawk vibe, which sounds complicated, but just means they sound like
Monster Magnet constructing supersonic freakships out of old Blue Cheer
and Kiss songs. Which might be complicated for THEM, but goes down plenty
easy on the ears. Is it a groove? It IS, a thick, nasty one, the kinda
thing Dolemite might use for an acid trip sequence, you know, with the
camera dancing around the club drunkenly and flashes of red and yellow
everywhere. Most likely track here to engulf you in the holy flames of rock
n’ roll is “Keep on Pushin’”, a mammoth mudboogie orgy of deep fried
Lizzy/Raging
Slab riffs that promises some kinda naked hippy girl revolution. It’s a
blast, baby. The headier among us will probably dig endless closer “Unwind
Your Mind” greatly, seeing as it’s 14 minutes of free-flowing Lysergic
space metal, and fans o’ heavy blues Black Keys-style are gonna palpitate
wildly over “Bloodrock” (the song, not the band, but if you wanna explore
a little early 70’s prog-doom, that’s yr business), and fans of
Cactus…well, you’ll just think this is a Cactus album. So I guess
everybody wins. Listen:
