I see my PBR-abusing
friends in the Boston rawk scene like, twice a year lately. I’m way too
busy powertripping for friends and acquaintances, you know how it goes.
But for the past few blood-moons, whenever I ran into anybody and asked
‘em what was ‘happening’, they’d say “Radar Eyes”. They might possibly
have been talking about some awesome new plastic surgery thing, but I was
still excited when a pink-splattered, hand-stamped digipak labeled “Radar
Eyes” slid it’s evil way into the Sleaze POB because now, finally, I would
fucking KNOW what’s happening too. And what’s happening is that Cracktorch-mighty-Cracktorch are deader than a doorknob, but
Radar Eyes
sound like they’re stepping right into their large and looming shoes with
a swirling assault of ragged, acid-eating revolution rock. Hell, this
massive 5 song EP was even produced by half of the ‘Torch, so you know
it’s gotta bring the ROCK. Of the 5 tracks, “The Heavy Experience” is
probably the highlight, a snaky, bass-heavy monster of rattling slam-bang
that brings to mind the MC5, Nixon Now, and Thee Hypnotics – you know,
blaring motherfucker rock for fearless freaks. Closer “Murder Ballad” is
another stand-out, mostly because it sounds like they recorded it while
flailing around on the floor, trying to light their cigarettes with
morphine-numb fingers. To tell you the truth, the whole thing is just a
big, bloody ball of dope, guns, and fucking in the streets. Hell, it’s
official: Radar Eyes are happening. The band AND the awesome plastic
surgery. The CD is cheaper though, so start there.
