Sweden’s
own Ms 45 open ‘er up with some well-placed “Oo-wee-oo’s” and ragged-assed
Johnny Thunders riffs on the tactfully titled opener “High Heeled
Bitches”, and I tell ya, you won’t hear a more authentic sounding New York
Dolls pastiche this side of 1973. They’ve got the Doll-y swagger down to
a wobbly science, staggering their way through blood n’ lipstick anthems
like “I Don’t Care” and “Everything’s More Fun When You’re High” with
rubber legs and tasty licks. Oh, and a slight Beach Boys fixation. Maybe
more than slight. It’s a
short run here, only five tracks, with a sloppy, soulful neo-ballad closer
(“Don’t Wanna Be Like That”), but Miss 45 show plenty of promise. Promise
and bad livers. Surprisingly melodic stuff, for a band named after an
ultra-violent
rape/revenge flick. __________________________________________________ |
