"The factory shut down and they took my job down to Mexico / I said I spoke a little Spanish so they told me 'Well, Adios' / At first I was real down but then I just said ' Oh what the Hell' / Now I'm standing on my feet behind the counter at the downtown Taco Bell".

The Whiskey Daredevils are 3/4 of The Cowslingers who I really need to investigate on the basis of this summer shellshocker of longgone lonesome but livin it up in Laredo and London loud, lascivious and quite lovely countryboogie'billy punky trash garage gunk. While the title may be tongue in cheek on a debut it makes sense when you hear then hail then hoot 'n' holler 'bout the consummate brilliance burning a barndance into your brain, brandishing tattoos inked in bourbon. I gotta, just gotta spill my wine in honour of something that takes me back to those ol' smilin' Satellites (the 'Dan Takes Five' bucket o' blood beer bottle in the gut BlasterBilly bastard 'Mickey's Bigmouth'; Ricki Richards and Johnny Winter slugging at each other in the gutter outside some riotin' roadhouse slidefest closer 'Greasy Box' - it's actually kinda like Jeff Healey too but y'know the analogy don't work!), those ol' smilin' but rather more scowlin' Scorchers ('Jesus Walks Beside Me') and takes a cheeky chunk of 'Psychotic Reaction' for a Jack 'n' Coke on 'Waiting For You', all the while making me crack a wry reminiscing smile at lovelorn barfly tale on 'Ida Jane' for times trying to catch a grin as I plummet into gallons of gin. At other times it just plain makes me laugh dancingly, ayuss, and vice versa - 'Waylon Jennings Shower' and 'Ironic Trucker Hat' (because of which his trustfund chum has 'more chicks than when he looked just like Mike Ness'). 'Don't Go' is a lovingly recreated hark, or howl, back to classic 50's Rock'n'Roll of the kind touched on by early Stray Cats and Los Lobos in the 80's, and possibly takes the chequered flag here, moreso for it's quite gorgeous, as the girl you lost, or lusted after (or both!) in the 5th year. Scotty Moore, T-Bone Walker guitar break. But really all these tracks are first among equals and only really equalled in my favours by the simply splendicious Shack*Shakers right now.

13x7x3/10!
