Jesus
Christ, just how much more bad ass can a record possibly be? The only way
you could squeeze anymore untamed aggression outta this CD is if it came
with a handful of broken glass for you to rub into your eyes while
listening to it. "Murder Junkies" is a re-release of the infamous GG/Antiseen
unholy alliance from the early 90's, proving just how far off the fuckin'
tracks we were collectively riding in those days. GG got progressively
crazier as the 80's wore on, and by 1991, pretty much the only guy left
willing to play with him was his redoubtable brother Merle, so the toxic two
dragged their rancid freakshow all the way down to the Carolinas, where Jeff
Clayton and his hillbilly headbreakers in Antiseen welcomed them with
bleeding, open arms. The rest is the kind of history you usually read in
True Crime magazine.
Since Antiseen were an actual, fully functioning rock and roll band, and not
the heroin addled petty criminals Allin usually utilized for a back-up band,
this is some of the most lethal GG Allin material available. With Antiseen
blazing away behind him, GG spits out his bile in the ugliest New Hampshire
accent imaginable, enunciating every word as if it's he's explaining his
poisoned worldview to disruptive children. And he was, of course. Musically,
the boy sound less like their redneck rioting selves and more like a
particularly slinky Misfits, which works perfectly. Crazily enough, some of
this stuff is actually catchy, like the anti-anthem "Violence Now" which
could be mistaken for a lost Sex Pistols nugget, were it not for that fuckin'
obnoxious accent (there's a single version of VN here, too. Was the extended
remix far behind?), and "Cock on the Loose" always rocks, no matter whose
fucking it up. The closing "Carolina Shitkickers" tracks are rather woeful,
boozy jamborees, but what the hell- I think the fucker was still in jail at
the time.
All in all, if any of GG's holy trinity- drinking, fighting, and fucking-
still appeal to you, than this one'll get your blood boiling, but good.
