Aenima - Never Fragile

The ironically titled "Never Fragile" is the sound of deep, choking velvet, of a poisonous purple mist lazily rolling in over some forlorn hollow. Aenima are a Portugese darkwave band, with gauzy leanings towards the symphonic goth/new age axis of suicidal romanticism. Aided greatly by the breathy songbird up front, a raven haired beauty (of course) simply named Carmen, who sounds exactly like what I imagine the Vikings always heard before they crashed their ships into rocks, enthralled in the Siren's song, "Never Fragile" is total immersion into a synthetic, yet oddly authentic sounding, Medieval world full of somber chamber music and inky darkness, occasionally punctuated with a stab of blinding sunlight. Fans of Rain Fell Within, Dead Can Dance, and other sprinklers of fairy dust will find themselves suitably enchanted by this, Aenima's second album. Sounds like the kind of thing that attracts vampires, though, so lock your windows first.
