Fire up the hookah and bring on the belly dancers, because Melbourne's own Ahkmed are back with another dose of sprawling, arid, dune buggy rawk. "Adventures" is a 5 song EP that finds these upside-down stoners tunneling ever deeper into druggy introspection. At this point, no one knows what the fuck they're talking about with songs like "Miyagi" or "Mofa Head", but their loping, boomerang riffs are universally understood, as is the fuzz-crunch bass, and the woozy, Soundgarden-on-Thorazine headphone mindtrip they take you on. Not sure if it was their intention- although I suspect it was- but on "Adventures", our sedated but groovy brothers from Down Under have pretty much nailed what it would sound like to be trapped inside a lava lamp, floating around in ever-evolving globs of oil, as lit-up brain soldiers gawk from the outside looking in, a hundred feet tall with eyeballs that dilate like eclipses of the sun. Which, at ten bucks Australian a pop, is still a lot cheaper than buying a bag of pills to get the same effect. Drone on, cosmic warriors, drone on.
