Atomic
Bitchwax - Spit Blood (Meteorcity) www.meteorcity.com |

This super deluxe bank breaker from Meteor City - which features a Bitchwax video documentary and a bonus compilation disc full of new signing album teasers- is like when somebody dies, and I have to go and rent a shiny new black suit for the occasion. It might look scrubbed clean and fancy on the outside, but inside it's the same burnt out rock and roll mess. Atomic Bitchwax is all about Monster Magnet sideman Ed Mundell's skin flaying acid metal guitar. The last time they were in town, I remember standing two feet away from him, and staring at his bony fingers as they tore up and down his fret like one of those guys that spins the plates on the sticks, wondering how such an unassuming, stringy haired character could possible create the wall of apocalyptic hellfire boogie that the full steam Bitchwax is known for. It's got to be the devil, 'cuz it's way too sexy for Jesus. 'Spit Blood' is a lot more rough and ready, shook out, and down to kill than last year's 'Atomic Bitchwax II', an almost free-form stoner jazz record that was about as 'jammy' as anything I'd ever listen to, and that's super-fine with me, because summer's coming, and I need a soundtrack for all those late night, high speed spin-outs in bright orange muscle cars I plan on indulging in. 'Spit Blood' will do nicely, I reckon.
