This record is so Goddamned sexy I want to lie to it, buy it a steady stream of stiff drinks, and take it home for a game of ‘naked movie star’. This is due in no small part to the smoldering vocals of raven haired (of course, they’ve all got black hair- this is a Swedish goth metal band after all) doom goddess Mariana Holmberg, who sounds not unlike a mournful, moon-stricken Annie Lennox. As if to prove the point, they do a cover of Eurythmics’ disco slink hit "Missionary Man’, only now it sounds like the soundtrack to a Dario Argento splatter scene. A video of the song is included on the disc, showcasing the uniformly handsome band laying down the furious black ass bone in the pouring rain, defying the laws of electricity and common sense, and it’s perfect, a whole new world full of Lucifuge and cemetary things languishing in an infinite, inky blackness. Elsewhere, LHS have moments of operatic Doom, of oily Danzig skullduggery, of punchy death and roll, and all of it sounds like they’ll turn to dust at the first hint of sunlight. If you’re planning on booking a band for your funeral, than Left Hand Solution are guaranteed to be the death of the party.
