No Means Yes – The Code of the Lonesome
www.nomeansyesrocks.com
The shame of charmy seaside town Newport, Rhode Island, No Means Yes crash and bash through a gaggle of raunchy roadhouse punk tunes on “Code”. If you really pay attention, all kindsa weird shit, like Halloween (the holiday, not the band) keyboards, Billy Idol riffs, and angry chick phone messages pop up, but more likely, you’ll be too caught up in the Damned-as-biker bar-holdouts speed rock to notice. Betrayed somewhat by a tinny production job that sorta makes them sound like an LA metal demo band from 1985 in spots (which is fine with me, of course, but probably not the intention), you still get the drift loud and clear on this- NMY are Dwarves and Misfits fans, and they are fully dedicated to playing loud, dirty punk and roll. Pick to click- the creepy, serial killer snarl of the title track, a raging, apocalyptic blood gurgle that’s sure to become an anthem for the next wave of gun toting schoolyard homicidal maniacs. Hey, they gotta get their ideas from somewhere, right?
