Blitzkid – Trace of a Stranger (Antidote)

‘Nother dose of hooky horror rock from the fine fiends at Antidote Records, which is quickly becoming my favorite undead record label. Blitzkid are from Virginia, home of many ghosts indeed, and they pay homage to the dearly departed and nearly retarded with a rollicking display of (imagine that) Misfits influenced ghoul punk. Exactly none of the Halloweened creep n’ roll bands on this or any other similarly themed label have ever been able to step out of the looming (yet oddly tiny) shadow of Glenn Danzig, and Blitzkid don’t even try. Argyle Goolsby just does his best evil Elvis, and the Kids respond with the expected “Whoa-ohs!” in all the right places. TB Monstrosity lays down a solid squall of resurrected 50’s rock n’ roll riffs, Billy Bones pounds the fuck out of what sounds like cardboard boxes, but may be coffin lids, and hey, it’s teenage zombie party, baby. The ultra-catchy “She Dominates” is yr best bet for conjuring up a sexy vampire girl, “Let’s Go to the Cemetery” will bring back fond memories of both 45 Grave and a naked, teenage Linnea Quigley, and “Making a Monster” just flat-out rocks. Lon Chaney’s top hatted “London After Midnight” vamp greets you on the cover, so you already know what yr getting into before the needle even hits the groove (laser, whatever). If you scare girls and know more about George Romero than you do about yr own dad, then Blitzkid will not let you down. See you at the “sammy-terry” (whoa-oh!), ya fangfaced freak.
