On Trial- Blinded by the Sun (Teepee)

Wildly effective 60’s garage punk-meets 70’s space rock here from these Danish acid kings. If you’ve ever day-dreamed about crazy old Roky Erickson bustin’ out of his self-imposed retirement and hooking up with spacelord motherbrothers Monster Magnet for a whirlwind tour of Mars (and who the fuck hasn’t let that scenario roll around in their brain like a tiger’s eye marble for awhile?), then imaginate no more, Mr. Dust, because it’s already happening, just with different names and far less psyche-ward lockups. Much like fellow Danes Baby Woodrose and Finn retro-champs Sweatmaster before them (or after them, more accurately- “Blinded” was recorded in 2001, but only reached US shores 3 months ago), On Trial is carving out fuzzy new vistas of what can only be described as Super Garage- bluesy psychedelic rock n roll plucked right outta 1966, cranked up to 11 or 12, and thrashed out with all the intensity and manic energy of some overamped dope metal band. It’s a righteous noise indeed, one that literally defies the ages, and On Trial might be the best of these paisley-punk alchemists so far. Sure, they lean a little too hard on the Spinal Tap-ish hippy-speak at times, but it’s more than made up for with crazy little flourishes like swells of Mexican brass and 70’s AM radio soul. Bands didn’t actually sound this good 40 years ago, but “Blinded by the Sun” will have you believing they did, and it’s about time you believed in something, brother. When it comes to heavy-lidded freedom rock, they don’t come much heavier- or rockin’- than On Trial. Dig in, drop out, and truck on.
