New York, Beatnik, and the Girl - some long forgotten Hanna Barbera travesty from 1967? Probably. But it's also the individuals that make up Chicago power trio Team Rock It. Like any band from that town that find themselves wandering into this Super Rock Mecca, they sound like their hometown anti-heroes, Urge Overkill. More like the earlier, Touch and Go days of wild experimentation in a 70's rawk bubble, though. The difference between a Huffy with banana seat and a Harley that breathes fire lies in the subtlety of the attack, and Team Rock It are pedal pushers all the way, twirling around in pink plastic power pop hooks and psychedelic guitars before bringing the hammer down with bombastic choruses and rock star riffs. Amber, (the Girl, natch), even takes on a little retro surf on her self-penned theme song, but really, the quintessential sound of the Team is the same as any power trio's- tightly wound rock and roll.
