Cock 'n' Roll

There's about a million of these High Energy Punk N' Roll type compilations floating around and I'm glad I don't have to review a lot of them because for the most part they're all the same bands over and over again. However, I was pleased as punch when I checked out the tracklisting on this one and found that it was almost entirely bands that I hadn't yet heard. While there aren't any outright bad songs on the CD, there are a couple of shameless Hellacopters rip-offs that I could do without but still serve as decent background noise between the really good stuff. Standout tracks include: The Lanternjack's (the only band in Detroit that matters) "Pretty Hex"; the almost Horror Rock sounding "Jersy Devil" by Rock City Crimewave (great name, btw); The Erotics' catchy glam number, "Space Age Mafia"; "Hot Alot", a sorta creepy, Danzig-esque tune by Queen Bee; the ass kickin' southern rock in overdrive of Bad Dog Boogie's "Highway of Your Soul"; The Vibratos' slow, Sabbathy "Ballad of Dorgas Figg" and "Temple of Your Choice" by Rickshaw who remind me a great deal of one of my favorite bands, Gluecifer. All in all, Cock 'n' Roll is a damn good addition to any Rock Fiend's record collection or a great introduction to the real Rock underground for the uninitiated.
