I started inventing bands like Spoiler in my head when I was 8 years old. Oh, I was down with Sabbath, Grand Funk, Thin Lizzy, and AC/DC, still am. But my version would also dose the recipe with the power-soul choruses of James Gang and War, and set it all spinning into a heat tunnel of the kind of scorching desert sand riff worship that wasn't actually invented for another 20 years. Well, the long goddamn wait is over, citizens, because Spoiler are on deck to set us all free. 'Mud n' Glitter' sounds like what I imagine awaits us all on the oft-whispered about but never heard Rick Rubin produced Unida record- thunderously contemporary, but with echoes that stretch across the decades, as if FM radio signals from 1976 were being beamed in from outer space while Spoiler were recording. These cats even manage to grind out a cover from the Grease soundtrack- "Electrifying"- and make it sound like a dust rock fuck anthem, which leads me to believe that what Spoiler's plan actually is involves warping the entire universe into one endless, muddy orgy of mirror shades and honcho mustache wearing rock dude bliss. Well, me too, so obviously, I am down with that plan. 'Mud n' Glitter' is an instant classic. I don't know if they have monster trucks in the Netherlands, but I certainly hope Spoiler are tearing up the gravel on one right now, blasting away their stellar paean to the almighty riff on speakers that melt glass, riding high and shifting low with the self-satisfied smirk of men that have rode the stone groove all the way, taming it like a tiger, and bringing it to the people like a righteous feast of muscle building rock protein. Dig in, brothers and sisters. We haven't eaten like this for years.
