Boss Martians - Making the Rounds

This was the one of the other few times (for skipping tracks and taking it off before the end). New wavey power-pop-punk that whizzes around in a (wannabe) brash manner doing absolutley nothing really. All bark and no bite as the saying goes. It's just not my cuppa, y'know, it's all well done and all but it doesn't hit the spot like big shots of rawk should. I can imagine them getting lots of airplay with their radio-friendly choruses, beefy guitars that aren't too heavy and are kept in place by the production and not allowed to REALLY snarl, and the personas in the songs of either unrequited love-struck dork or badass boy ya shouldn't mess with. Man. It's just one of those things of authenticity. Hell they may well come round and kick seven reams of shit outta limey asses like me but y'know Ronnie VZant talked the talk in Skynyrd but you KNOW he was a tough mother. Same with Keef and so on and on. And on. Some of the songs are familiar without the source coming to mind (not like the sauce does), and stuff like the opener and Dreaming in Stereo waft along quite nicely on a summers breeze. I mean, sure, the world's full of educated derelicts and talented failures but this is just too MOR, even AOR, insipid, uninspired, and unoriginal. All huff and no puff makes Stuie still being stood here. - Stu Gibson
