If this really were some reappraisal of dodgy old Darwin (not that I think the history of the world should be taught like in some barmy Deep South school) these cats should be evolving into some superhuman behemoth, judging by the thundering barrage of sludgy, souped-up slices of chaos they unleash. Propelled along on a battering ram of scurrying stand up bass (kinda like The Elevators electric jug), trusty rockabilly riffs, and intricate little twists skewering some huge, naw, gargantuan choruses, rounding em up into short, and very sweet, sharp shocks. There's a whole range of styles and themes from high speed drag racers hurtling full throttle into the abyss and having a hell of a time doing it like gonzoid Gremlins ("Communication Breakdown", "So Bad It's Good") to the ska-tinged "Sin is Law", the glam-rock brothel creeper romp of "Nothing's Alright" (which almost crashlands into Mud's "Tiger Feet" for a fleeting instant before righting the wheel and swinging into a sideroad full of Sigue Sigue Sputnik choruses), splattercore anthems like B-movie horror film music ("Caroline", "Love is Dead" - "I fell for you in fact I burnt my prick" which could've been a choice line, but I can't make out the preceding line) thru to the countryesque tears in your beer "bartender pour another drink" of "Delirium". Maybe it's cos I watched a bit of it the other night but they're like The Lost Boys - coming out of their lair to give us some glimpses of pictures from life's other side, unleashing a clattering racket upon an unsuspecting populace before vanishing into thin air again.

Depending on what mood you're in this could get a wee bit wearing and too pummeling, but that should only give them cause to smile. And it's good to have someone putting their own slant on Rocka/Psycho/Punka Billy - call it what you like. They may be too mad and unhinged for the current, or any earthly climate, but it's completely, utterly barnstorming, completely, utterly brilliant, and completely, utterly over the top. Just the way it should be. What great Rock'n'Roll isn't, eh? - Stu Gibson
