The Good Guys - s/t
(self-released)

While West Coast Green Day / Offspring / Vandals stuff doesn't really get my goat by the throat too much. A couple of tracks on this 8 song mini thing shine through, though. "Guy Like Me" gets the ball rolling with some strong melodies and the odd little quirk in the arrangement department, and sticks in your head quite a while after. Seems to be a self-release, and the recording's a bit rough, which isn't a bad thing at all (and not really anything I should have a right to complain about), point being that with some better production / mixing whatever they could well be set on their way to swim in similar waters with the Epitaph / Neutrino crews 'cos to me at least this speed - skate - punka thing is pretty much a "If you like this ,you'll like that". Tho, maybe not, 'cos not all Sisters of Murky fans could stomach The Nephilim, or Dogs D'Amour types the Quireboys, and I'm talking to meself again. Can't see myself playing it all too often, it's not greatly imaginative. So all being told, not great guys, not especially good, but not wholly bad either. How's that for sitting on the fence?  - Stu Gibson
