Well, folks, just you listen up while I tell you something. Y'see, seems that right here, right now we just might have us the best release of the year so far (tho bear in mind that Maria McKee's new album, at the time of writing, is but a mere week and a half away). Why? Whew, large sizzling dollop of a clue in the title - almost impossibly sunshiny and shimmery sitting out drinking and blistrin in the sun - a heady potent brew of old timey Cajun and Country two-steppers and what I imagine could well be the odd splash of traditional european folk stuff all wrapped up with a some punky TexMex aromas. Deliciously quirky, you can almost smell the food and taste the hooch, or the other way round if you prefer. The trombone on the songs is used with great effect and while these songs'd stand up if played on a beat up old acoustic on the mythical old rockin' chair on the porch (well, mine are mythical cos I got neither) with a mason jar it adds a lot to this idiosyncratic bunch, and also of course a nice new flavour to spice and sweeten up the proceedings and torch your palette. Glory be. This, oh people of the rock world, country world whatever, especially those of you living resolutely in your own wee world, is absolutely, refreshingly stunning. Go buy. Now. Goddamnit. |
